Italy Work Experience Scheme Easter 2018
15 post 16 Students travelled to Italy to gain work experience in the hospitality and winter sports industries over Easter 2018. This project involved our students and staff spending two weeks abroad undertaking a range of jobs in hotels in and around the resort developing leadership, teamwork and language skills. The project was fully funded by the EU through the Erasmus+ scheme and allowed us to send Sixth Form students to Folgarida in Italy to gain vital work experience and hands on experience in the real world. The students involved in the project went through a rigorous application and interview process, before completing a program of Italian lessons and preparation activities before we travelled to Italy. Whilst on placement the students had an amazing experience, overcoming personal fears and learning to cope for an extended period of time away from home, while managing their work, time and emotions with the help of school staff for support.
As a result of the project, the students returned with new skills, improved skills, more confidence and improved vocational qualifications. All students have gone on to start the university application process and feel enriched as a result of the experience. Here are a selection of quotes from students on returning from the trip:
- “The Erasmus+ trip was a trip worth going to. It enhanced my communication skills, team working skills, and other skills which I have applied in school and the work place. It has also developed my social life as I made new friends. It was an amazing experience I would want to have again.”
CM- Year 12 Business student
- “By going on the Erasmus+ trip it has helped me build my confidence. This has helped me become a better person and I would recommend this to anyone that has the opportunity to go this experience.”
HKM – Year 12 Public Service student
- “The Erasmus+ trip was a unique experience & helped me develop skills as well as help me build up my CV.”

We are delighted to announce we have won our bid through the 2018 Erasmus+ call to run a similar scheme in 2019 for students who enrol into Hanson Sixth form in September. This scheme will involve 15 year 12 students, and will run over the Easter period in 2019. Information will be shared through year 12 assemblies in the Autumn term about how to apply to be part of the scheme.
Erasmus+ is the European Union’s (EU) programme for education, training, youth and sport, with the EU committing £12 billion to the programme between 2014 and 2020. In the UK, the programme is managed by the Erasmus+ UK National Agency, a partnership between the British Council and Ecorys UK.
